Grace and Dignity

The words Grace and Dignity have been on my mind this week for more than one reason.
Initially, I saw a friend at the grocery who is going through a bitter divorce and she told me that her soon to be ex-mother in law had just passed away. My friend had been concerned about her and had been checking on her regularly in the hospital before she died. She told me she was devastated when her soon to be ex-husband announced that he was bringing his new girlfriend to the funeral service. I said to her “grace and dignity". "You be the better person. Hold your head high and show grace and dignity at the funeral.”
Then President George HW Bush passed away and my thoughts turned again to the words “grace and dignity”. The man was a great human being - a solid family man, loyal and true - he served as a living example of what the words husband, father and grandfather actually mean. He was a true American hero having fought in World War II distinguishing himself as a fighter pilot. He was an honorable public servant having worn many hats in service to his country including Vice President, President and father of a president. Few people will be remembered in history for achieving so much.
Before President Bush Sr passed away and those words “grace and dignity” were on my mind - I couldn’t help but think about the disgraceful Bill and Hillary Clinton and their sham 13 cities tour. They are selling tickets to anyone who wants to hear them talk about their lives and their views on the world - and I can't help but wonder - why can’t those two people just retire with grace and dignity and be done with it? They are in their 70's and everyone is tired of them. Absolutely no one wants them to keep speaking publicly about politics.
But no - they refuse to retire. They started their tour in Canada telling Canadians that they were better people than in America. Really? Better than the America that made the Clintons wealthy, gave them respect that they never deserved or earned and suffers through their selfish ungratefulness on parade? That America? The America that forgave all their sins by awarding them re-elections and high level government positions that they were never qualified to hold.
I’m so sick of Bill Clinton’s ‘Bubba” southern drawl schtick like that’s his magic potion to open any door. It worked in the past but now it’s old and it has a big honking red nose from drinking too much, and really irritating. All I see when I look at Bill Clinton’s face is a big neon sign plastered on his forehead that reads “RAPIST CHEATER & LIAR”.
Then there is Hillary. Oh my gosh can anyone shut this woman up!! Why can’t she retire with grace and dignity and enjoy having been a First Lady? Why can’t she relish her service in the Senate and at the State Department as accomplishments of her life? Why do Hillary and Bill Clinton think it’s never enough. There’s never enough illicit sex and booze for Bill, and there’s never enough money and power for Hillary. There is never enough grandiosity for either of them. On Hillary's forehead I see the words "RAPIST ENABLING GRIFTER".
The Clinton’s are the exact opposite of grace and dignity and neither of them have an ounce of either quality. They could have retired when they left the White House. They say they were broke but that was a lie. Bill was getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for speeches. But therein lies the problem. Hundreds of thousands of dollars isn't the millions and billions that could be harvested from selling influence. The longer they have dragged out the Bill and Hillary show in the public square the worse it has gotten for them.
I think Bill knew - but since he got away with it himself maybe she could too - but Bill knew Hillary wasn't qualified to be president when she ran for the office. Bill probably was never qualified either but they both think the electorate are stupid and will fall for anything - and apparently they are not entirely wrong about that - Hillary did win the popular vote (or maybe not if you discount all the illegals voting in America). One thing Bill did gain in his time in the Oval office is an astute sense of politics. He knew Hillary had flubbed the Secretary of State job very badly but they thought if they got everyone to act like it was a "nothing burger" (as Hillary called her email debacle), everyone would follow along as they've always done. They'd do as they were told and vote for Hillary. The power and riches were right there at their fingertips. Then the earth shifted on its axis and Hillary lost the election.
I have a prediction before the Mueller, Huber and other investigation results are revealed.
I predict the Clintons pushed it too far and their opportunity to gracefully retire has passed. I believe the ill fated decision for Hillary to take the position of Secretary of State was their final undoing because she was motivated by power and greed. In her quest for ultimate power she remarkably managed to enlist top government officials from America and several other countries to join her influence peddling scheme and criminal cabal coverup that may yet cost them all time in prison. They all placed their bets on Hillary winning that election and then all their involvement in criminal activity would be hidden and never found out.
Too bad the Clintons decided not to retire when they had the chance to pretend they had grace and dignity for appearances sake if nothing else, because now that opportunity is lost forever. The dark chapter on the life of Bill and Hillary Clinton and all the people they took down with them will finally close. The Clintons might just go down in infamy as two of America’s most disgraceful and corrupt politicians that ever lived. The words "grace and dignity" will never be associated with either of them.

Thank you for this 'perfect' observation Elaine. You have capsulized the essence of your topic. For me....I see very little grace and dignity in Americas political enterprise. Very few of our current leaders embody those traits. Even fewer grasp the notion of honest humility. I pray, that the time will return to our country when those who claim to be our moral compass.....return the needle and remember the days when class, style and respect ruled egos. Well written Elaine.
